Here are some more details on Job Scheduler 2 capabilities and features:

  • Monitor Your Website (Is It Up?)
Is your website down or running slowly? JS2 can check it for you regularly (ping) and let you know if there is a problem by email or text message. You can also limit the hours during the day when you want to be notified (particularly if you are being informed by text message).

  • Extract Data While You Sleep
Dapper is a unique facility that allows you to easily define information that you would like to extract from a web page. JS2 extends that by allowing you to run such jobs on a scheduled basis. (JS2 includes the Dapp API that allows it to run Dapp jobs that you have defined on the Dapp website).

  • Copy File From Server to Server
If you need to extract a file on one server and move it to another one, JS2 provides a Copy facility to do that. This could be used, for example, to move a backup file to another server. Using job dependencies, the copy could be part of a chain of jobs to create, copy and then process the file.

  • Execute any Internet Page
JS2 can run any page on any internet website / server at the time and with the frequency that you specify. This has the most value if it is a custom page that does specialized processing and database updates or maintenance. JS2 even gives you the ability to run pages that require a user sign-in. If you have your own customized data extract or if you use Yahoo Pipes or other such facilities you can use JS2 to trigger them.

  • JS2 Lets You Control and Link Your Jobs
JS2 provides a number of parameters to control if and when your job will run:
    • Start Time and Date
You can specify the initial date and time to run your job.
    • Run Frequency
This can be anything from once per hour to once per year. You can also specify that a job should only run once or that it should be disabled.
    • Daily Run Window
You can specify a start and end time each day when a job can be run. As an example, you can use JS2 to check your website performance every hour but you can limit this checking to 8AM to 10PM.
    • Dependencies
You can specify job sequences and dependencies between jobs. JS2 provides a format to include a return code in the output from a job (for developers). Execution of subsequent jobs can be made dependent on the specific return code from your job. You can construct a chain of dependent jobs.
    • Notification
You can optionally provide an email address where the job output will be sent every time the job runs.
  • Access Password Protected Pages
JS2 has the ability to provide the ID and Password to allow access to pages that aren't open to the public. JS2 can handle standard Unix/Linux protected pages (and probably Windows as well) as well as Application-defined ID and Password control (but not if it has a captcha feature). The system encrypts your password and this can be stored in the JS2 database or in a file that you can store on your site.

  • Easy Online Interface
The system provides you with a panel where you can see all of your jobs. They are color-coded to show the ones that are ready to run, ones that have dependencies and the ones that are disabled. You can click on any job to change the run parameters or to delete the job. From this panel you can also add new jobs.
